Bold and bright lipsticks have definitely been very me for over a year now. I always used to buy eyeshadows and experiment with them but now I definitely have more of an obsession with adding colour to my lips. I’ve managed to build one of my drawers up with what I’d like to call quite an impressive selection but I’ve narrowed it down to my 6 favourite lipsticks. This doesn’t include any liquids, just your normal twist-up sticks.
MAC Matte in Deep Rooted
I’ve done a full review of this which you can read here but this is solidly one of my most favourite lipsticks. It’s a very cool-toned grey lipstick and perfectly matches my new pastel pink hair. I try to keep to a neutral eye when I use it as it is actually pretty dark when you apply it. Deep Rooted is pretty easy to dress up or down, I wear it to work quite a bit and when I go out too.
MAC Up The Amp in Amplified
Another lipstick that pretty much has permanent residence in my handbag is MAC Up The Amp in Amplified. I bought this from the airport when I was leaving the US I think and I adore it. I haven’t actually reviewed it properly yet for some reason and it’s almost gone. Definitely worth a repurchase though. It is a bright purple-pink with, again, a very cool undertone. The finish is fairly satin unlike most the matte lipsticks I tend to wear. It’s bright enough to use for a night out but also subtle enough to add some colour to a neutral look.
MAC Matte in Whirl
I bought MAC Whirl because the infamous Velvet Teddy was out of stock when I popped into MAC once. I love it so much though. It’s the perfect tone for my skin, especially when my freckles are out from the sunshine. With a really warm, brown undertone, it’s the perfect everyday ‘natural’ lip colour. It’s also matte which is another reason I love it so much.
Love & Beauty Beauty (F21) in Hibiscus
This was actually a random purchase from Forever 21 a while back. The lipstick came in a pack of five but is one of my favourite over-the-top bright pinks and is rightly labelled Hibiscus. It’s not an everyday lipstick but it deserved a place in my 6 favourite lipsticks purely because of how much of a surprise it was to me. It lasts pretty much all day and is a really bright, matte pink. The formula is really creamy and also smells nice which I think is pretty important. I expected it to be a bit naff and smell cheap but it’s pretty much the opposite. Such a bargain!
Rimmel Kate Moss in Rossetto
This is the most perfect neutral pink I’ve ever used and is the Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in Rossetto. I love this shade and again, it’s another handbag lipstick for emergencies. It’s a cool-toned pink, is fairly natural looking and goes with pretty much any look. I’ve used it previously alongside the Rimmel lip liner Snob and it’s the perfect summer lip colour. Again, it’s matte so another thumbs up from me for that.
Urban Decay in Bruise
My Urban Decay Lipstick in Bruise is a fairly new purchase. I haven’t worn it too much yet as I’ve run out of lip liner to go with it. It’s a great vampy red that is amazing teamed with a smoky eye. With a fairly glossy finish, it’s not something that I’d usually go for but it looks great on. The only thing I would say is that this really needs a lip liner. It has a very fluid finish and can bleed onto your skin a little bit. That being said, it’s one of my favourite deep reds and I haven’t worn it enough yet.
I’ll be doing another favourites post as I realised whilst choosing which ones to include that I have a fair few liquid lipsticks that I love too. I go through phases of using different colours but these are the ones that I reach for the most on a regular basis depending on what look I’m going for.
