If you’re following me on my fitness Instagram but you may have seen that I’ve been changing my diet recently. I’ve been posting a lot of what I’ve been eating and my fitness routines, along with my before and after photos. The biggest change for me is how I keep track of what I’m eating. In the last few years, I’ve become obsessed with counting my calories and macros. Since re-starting the Beachbody programs, calorie counting isn’t high up on my to-do list anymore. Depending on your goals, I don’t think it’s necessarily important to track them down to the last bite. If your aim is to lose weight and tone up like me, I’ve found that the 21 Day Fix has worked a treat. I’m still in control of what goes in my mouth but it’s more about the types of foods and the portion sizes.
I’ve now finished the 21 Day Fix and I’ve moved onto PiYo to help my knee recover from running. Chris Downing’s Shift Shop launches in July so I’ll be starting that next with my coach, Alexis, and team. With the 21 Day Fix, you work out your optimum calorie intake and then match it up with how many types of foods you eat per day. This goes alongside your workouts and daily water intake. Your intake comes from; your weight in lbs x 11. Add 400kcals to that (what you burn in an average 21DF workout) and then taking away 750kcals. The number you are left with you then match up with one of the plans.
The 21 Day Fix Nutrition
With the 21 Day Fix nutritional plan, you will need these coloured tubs. Each colour represents a different type of food. I was on plan B which meant that I had a daily intake of 1,500-1,799kcals. This was then broken down into the following:
- 4 x Green Tub (Veggies)
- 3 x Purple (Fruits)
- 4 x Red (Protein)
- 3 x Yellow (Carbs)
- 1 x Blue (Healthy Fats)
- 1 x Orange (Seeds & Dressings)
- 4 x Teaspoons (Oils & Nut Butters)
When you sign up for Beachbody On Demand or if you order the 21 Day Fix online, it breaks down the categories and which foods are included. I’ve been making a spreadsheet each week with my meal plan and making sure I’m eating the correct things. Normally, MyFitness Pal was my go-to for calorie counting but I’m now just completely relying on the tubs.
I’ve had so much freedom with what I’m eating and I have plenty of snacks that I take to work with me to keep me going through the day. Calorie counting made me so worried about getting my macros exactly right. With this method, I haven’t had to think about it. You get used to what the amounts look like on a plate so eating out and choosing healthier options are so much easier because you can see it in front of you.
This way of keeping track of what you’re eating is perfect for me. I’ve always struggled with losing weight and for the first time, I have seen significant changes. There’s a more detailed post on the 21 Day Fix scheduled for later in the week if you would like to know more. As from Monday, I’ll be starting the Shift Shop so I’ll keep posting results and workouts from that. I’ve had so much energy and never felt hungry and the proof is seen the most in the pictures I put on Instagram.
