I went to Parklife this weekend which was my first ever festival and I loved every minute of it. It’s also the first post in my Manchester series which I will be doing every two months. I was lucky enough to get a production pass as I was working in the Social Media office on the Sunday as part of my new job which was amazing! There was so much going on so this will be a fairly picture heavy post with the things I got up to. There’s a mixture of photos from my camera and my phone so the quality varies.
I started off the Saturday in the VIP area with Stu, Anna and her sister Steph. It was an amazing vibe in there with Gina, who I used to work with, DJing (Miss B). There were some great food vendors in there like Almost Famous, Luck Lust Liquor and Burn and SoLita and I re-lived my teenage years a little bit drinking cans of Strongbow – oh how classy of me!.
There were 12 main stages but my favourite looking ones out of all had to be, minus the main stage, the Treehouse where there were DJs all day and the Warehouse Project/Disclosure stage which was made out of metal shipment containers. The atmosphere around them was absolutely amazing!
In the middle of the park, towards the main stage was a fun fair with a ferris wheel, a log flume and a spinning, booster ride – which terrified me!! I managed to see Snoop Dog, although I was pretty far away but it was an amazing crowd of people and everyone was getting involved with joining in. I was actually pretty surprised at how many songs I knew.
On the Sunday, I spent most of it backstage in the office but I wish that I had ventured back there the day before! There was a Tigi hair salon where you could get your hair and make up done for free which I took full advantage of! I had it curled and asked the stylist to put some kind of plait in my hair and she did a waterfall braid! I loved it, I’ve always wanted one but I’ve never ventured to try it!
Whilst wandering around backstage, I also came across these two lovelies, Lenny and Muzzy! I used to work with them in the Arndale store and I haven’t seen them for ages!
I realised that with my pass I could go right at the front side of the stage which was amazing, I only wish I’d known for the Saturday too! I met back up with Stu and Anna as they had a similar pass and watched Bastille right from the front. It was an absolutely incredible experience and Bastille did a rendition of TLC’s No Scrubs with Ella Eyre which was beautiful. I was then lucky enough to meet her as she watched the rest of their set from where we were stood.
After seeing Bastille’s set, we headed back to the VIP area to get some food and drinks. I had an amazing burger from SoLita called the KFB, it had a patty, cheese, salad a brioche and – wait for it – kentucky fried bacon. It was the tastiest thing I have ever eaten! I think it may have slightly overtaken how I feel about Almost Famous it was that good! I was very happy.
We headed back round to the side of the stage to watch the Foals who were brilliant too. I didn’t watch them right until the end as we didn’t want to get caught in the crowds of people leaving the festival. There was a lot of smoke machines for their set so couldn’t get as many good photos of them playing.
I can’t believe how lucky I was to be able to do this, for my first festival, Parklife was so much fun! And seeing bands so close up was crazy! I can’t wait to go to my next!
