Step Into Spring

Step Into Spring

Today is officially the first day of Spring! Happy Spring Equinox! Flowers are starting to bloom, the sun is around longer and it’s finally getting a little warmer. With that in mind, it’s nice to have a little life refresh to step into spring. I love to have a big spring clean and a clear out. There’s something incredibly therapeutic about making your house pristine. There are a few things that I’m currently doing around my house to have a bit of a sort out.

Step Into Spring

Spring Clean

On top of all of my usual weekly cleaning chores, I always go the extra mile to make sure my house looks and feels spick and span. Aside from hoovering and dusting my floorspace, I’ve moved heavier furniture like my wardrobe and bed to clean behind and underneath them. I hate cleaning my windows and the fixtures so I’ve also dragged myself to do this.

Give some rooms a lick of paint

Being in a house share can be tricky as I have to check with my landlord first. He’s currently away so I’m looking into colours that he might not mind as I’d like to make my feature wall a very pale grey/purple. My bedroom is very white and I’ve been trawling through Pinterest and I’m loving how cosy rooms look with a subtle pale mauve. I don’t have to get rid of the white, grey and pink decorations that I have in my room then either.

Move furniture around

I have a bad habit of doing this at any time of the year but it always feels so much nicer to do it in the Spring. A room can get a completely different vibe when you move your furniture around. I never have my bed on the same wall as my door as I find it difficult to have a solid night’s sleep. After looking into some Feng Shui this could actually be because you can subconsciously be quite unnerved if you’re unable to see your door. Strange, eh?

Go through your wardrobe

I do this firstly so that I can bring some spring colours back into my wardrobe as the weather starts to get brighter and warmer. Secondly, I have a bad habit of hoarding clothes that I love wearing but that have definitely seen better days. Spring is a time to chuck out clothes that have no more give. If I have any decent ones that I don’t wear, I like to give them to a local charity shop.

Spring is always a good time to make a fresh start, a little like the new year does. A big spring clean can be incredibly therapeutic and really makes a room or house feel like new. The thing I love the most is that the weather starts to get so much better – well it tries to in the UK! Flowers are blooming everywhere and people just seem generally happier in themselves. Something I’m also trying out at the moment is bringing more ‘Hygge’ inspired decorations into my room. I know it’s a bit of a bandwagon at the moment but cosy rooms are so nice.

Do you change any of your routines to step into spring positively?
