Something I’ve always loved to do is go to the beach. It’s one of the places in the UK that reminds you of going on holiday as a child. There’s not always a blue sky and it can be windy and cold but the fresh, sea air is one of my favourite smells. Seafood and ice cream is also a lot better when you’re at the seaside.
When I was a child, we used to always go to Hunstanton in Norfolk and occasionally Skegness in Lincolnshire. My mum only lives about thirty minutes away from Skegness now but I haven’t been for a few years. There’s also Wells-Next-To-Sea which is a lot cleaner and can be quieter, it also has a wood close by which is lovely for a walk.
Last month, when I went home, I stayed with Alice and Nick for the night. They don’t live too far from Wells-Next-To-Sea so thought it would go on an adventure with Jake, their dog. So, after a night of French 75s and films, we got up and headed towards the beach for the morning.
I didn’t realise how many adorable beach huts there were! I don’t think I had ever been to this part of the beach at Wells-Next-To-Sea before. It was also the perfect opportunity to play with the camera on my new iPhone. I deliberately wore my wellies so I could have a little paddle in the sea. I’m secretly 10 years old at heart.
I haven’t been to a British beach in years and I forgot how nice they can be. It was a fairly bright day too and warm enough to not have a jacket on for most of the day. Although the wind was a little strong at times, I think I can pull off the windswept look!
We had a stroll through the woods and tried to take a photo of Jake actually looking at the camera! This isn’t the easiest of tasks when you have an incredibly excitable dog! There was only one thing missing from the day; ice cream. We got in the car and went over to one of the local ice cream shops.
There is an amazing ice cream parlour in the town centre called Wells Ice Cream Factory. It does so many flavours and it was hard to pick just three. I went for a cup with a mixture of coffee, peanut butter and Kinder Bueno – delish!
Wells-Next-To-Sea is a really beautiful part of the country so if you ever happen to end up in the East of England, you need to go. If you’re going for a full day, make sure you have some fish and chips or some shellfish on the front too. There’s nothing better than fresh seafood at the seaside. It was lovely to see Alice as I lived with her throughout university so take the opportunity to do so whenever I go home.
