So as most of you have probably guessed, my work load hasn’t eased up very much and I’ve been struggling to write blog posts in between doing my uni work and actually working. I’m hoping this will change now that I don’t have any assignments in until March time, I just have on going reading and writing.
Anyway, with my mum going back to college and doing Level 2 Beauty Therapy, she also decided to become qualified in spray tanning. I’ve tried a couple out before such as St. Tropez, Fake Bake and Sunjunkie but Sienna X definitely has been the best. After speaking to a girl called Verity at the Pro Beauty Show, Manchester, mum ordered all of her bits to get started and booked us in for our training session.
On the day, there were two representatives from Sienna X, Amanda and Charlene, and six of us training to spray. We were given a manual, a product guide and a few samples of the products. The day consisted of going through the theory side of tanning and then going on to spraying at the end. It was really interesting to find out about the different DHA percentages in the formulas and how to decipher what would look best on your client. We also looked into what skin conditions or situations that you should be cautious of spray tanning for. The obvious ones are things like the solution shouldn’t go onto any areas where there are open cuts. However, I didn’t know that you shouldn’t spray tan someone in their first trimester of pregnancy because of their imbalanced hormones. DHA is a natural sugar which reacts with the upper layers of the skin and oxygen. An imbalance of hormones can create the tan to either not develop at all or over develop.
Now, the tanning! Lots of fun, I’m sure most of you have had a spray tan before in one of those little pop-up tents with someone asking you to stand in strange poses. The tanning itself was fairly easy, it was remembering the positions which were hard! Once you’ve tested the guide colour on some tissue, you spray down the body, keeping the gun parallel and at the same angle to the shape of the body. If you see the solution looking a bit wet on the skin, simply dab with some tissue.
The experience has been really interesting and we were advised to find around ten friends to test out our new found spray tanning skills before charging for it so that we feel comfortable and confident. I won’t be jumping into it straight away as the kit is kept at home and not with me in Manchester. I’ve put a couple of pictures of the literature that we were given and also me with the tan on about 4 days after. I still have a nice glow and it hasn’t gone patchy anywhere. I love the Sienna X tanning products, they smell amazing too and don’t leave that biscuity smell. If you have any questions just ask below and I’ll try my best to answer them!
