One of the best things about living and working in Orlando are the reunions with Disney friends. You have an incredibly special bond with them and there’s really no way of explaining it. Everyone becomes very close, very quickly and they are generally friends for life. At the weekend I had a visit from Rhona who is one of my best friends. I originally met her in 2013 on my first internships at Walt Disney World. She was then in Orlando for most of my time there the second time. I haven’t seen her since our Road Trip to Nashville and the Smoky Mountains last June so was super excited to have her stay with me.
I had fajitas and nachos ready and waiting for us when she got here. We seem to have an accidental tradition of watching High School Musical too so we repeated it obviously. I’m going to admit, I love the HSM series. They are so cheesy and cringy but great to watch every so often. And, yes, we sang along to all the songs.
It was supposed to be really rainy and grey on the Saturday so I wasn’t sure where we should adventure. Luckily, there was only a shower in the morning in the end. After making some brunch, we headed over to Delamere Forest for a wander and a walk. I haven’t been for a while and it was really quiet but we saw some adorable dogs every so often.
There’s an easy walk around the lake that goes through some beautiful wooded areas. I really want to go to Go Ape in the summer too which is also there. Although, I’m not sure if it will terrify me or not! We came across some teepees made out of branches which I’ve now discovered is part of an education program that Delamere Forest does. Naturally, we had to explore and go inside one!
After our mini adventure, we went to a pub called The Fishpool Inn which had been recommended by several people at work. The outside really doesn’t do the inside justice! It smells wonderfully of burning logs which is a little strange in spring but it smelt amazing. The main part of the dining room is a really bright barn conversion. We were sat at a bar table which was in a more cosy area but still beautifully decorated with the beams exposed.
We shared some chips and some breaded camembert and washed it down with a coffee. What’s a weekend without something naughty to eat?! We needed to top it off with something sweet so had some local ice cream. The coffee was actually really good and came in a pretty cup that looked quite old fashioned but was glittery. We headed back to mine and continued our relaxing day with High School Musical 2 & 3. Naturally, with salted butter popcorn and some Pringles.
On the Sunday, we had an impromptu brunch with Vicki and Amy; more Disney friends who were in Chester that morning. We haven’t all been together since either 2013 or 2014 so it was great to catch up. Besides, a Sunday wouldn’t be complete without some avocado and poached eggs, would it?
I took Rhona round the Chester Walls and luckily, it was another beautiful day. The river and meadows always look so much better with a bright blue sky and the sun shining down. It was so pretty. We got our favourite from Starbucks (Green Tea Frappuccinos) and walked round the city centre for the afternoon.
By mid-afternoon, we were pooped and went back to mine so that Rhona could get ready to start her four-hour journey back up to Scotland. Fortunately, it won’t be too long until I next see her. I’m planning my next adventure to go and see her in Edinburgh. I haven’t been there since I was about ten years old so I don’t really remember much. Thank you for such a lovely weekend, see you soon!
