Hickory’s Smokehouse Curbside Pick-Up, Chester

It’s July 4th and I love American food so we decided we wanted to theme our day even when staying at home. Restaurants are starting to reopen but we’re still not comfortable going out yet so we decided to get Hickory’s Smokehouse Curbside Pick-Up. One of my favourite places to visit and we went only a few days before lockdown happened so it seemed fitting to do the same whilst measures are eased up.

Although I love the interior of Hickory’s, it was great to have it in the comfort of our own home. We got ourselves the family platter despite there only being two of us – leftovers are never a bad thing! I’ve tried quite a lot in the restaurant before and everything has been incredible. The burgers and ribs are some of the best that I’ve had, including the ones I’ve eaten in the States.

There’s so much choice with the drinks too; American style sodas, signature cocktails and then an assortment of milkshakes that can definitely pass for desserts. I love whisky so one of my favourite drinks is Hickory’s Campfire Old Fashioned of the Hard Cherry Cola. Both are drinks that I’ve never seen anywhere else in the UK but go down far too quickly!

Starters-wise, if you love not being able to feel your tongue and sweating, try out the Louisiana Hot Wings. They are a little too much for me but the flavour is amazing. Curt always has these pretty much every time we go and having some on the platter at home was no different today! I always go for the Burnt End Popcorn Bites as they literally melt in your mouth. They’re lightly covered in different spices and taste divine.

We opted for just the family platter for Hickory’s Smokehouse Curbside Pick-Up because it’s so big. I didn’t realise that they actually give you it chilled so that you can finish off the cooking once you get in! This was a nice touch because we got to learn a little about cooking times.

The platter comes with Texas-Style Brisket (my absolute favourite!), 12 wings (we went for Louisiana and BBQ), half a smoked chicken, mac and cheese, a full rack of Memphis ribs and BBQ pit beans and slaw on the side. This is honestly one of the best ways to try out Hickory’s Smokehouse because you get a little bit of everything to try.

When we picked it up, I noticed that they have turned the car park into a beer garden with some wooden, chunky furniture. When we’re feeling better about everything, we’ll be going back to have some drinks. Until then, we loved having Hickory’s Smokehouse Curbside Pick-up. It tasted amazing and it was fun to cook ourselves.
